Max Holding TimeWaste that can decompose and produce odors must be treated, refrigerated, frozen, or disposed of within 30 days if not stored at or below freezing temperatures.
Labeling RequirementsAll containers holding medical waste must display the universal biohazard symbol.
Container StandardsSharp containers must be puncture-resistant, leak-proof on the sides and bottom, and labeled appropriately. Other medical waste containers should be rigid, leak-proof, and have tight-fitting lids to prevent leakage during handling and transport.
Who Can Haul WasteOnly individuals or companies registered with the CDPHE are authorized to transport medical waste.
Documentation RequiredTracking records. All records must be retained for three years for inspection by regulatory authorities.
