Rules for Organizations & Facilities:

Max Holding TimeInfectious waste may not be stored at the waste-producing facility for more than 14 days. If refrigerated, storage is limited to 45 days.
Labeling RequirementsThe universal biohazard symbol must be displayed.Labeling must occur immediately after packaging the waste.
Container StandardsInfectious waste must be placed in two red bags, one inside the other. Each bag must be individually tied or sealed to prevent leakage.
Who Can Haul WasteOnly individuals or companies registered with DNREC are authorized to transport infectious waste.
Documentation RequiredAnnual reporting and the Infectious Waste Identification Number.
