| Max Holding Time | Unless specific conditions are met, PIMW must not be stored for more than 72 hours. If the waste's surface temperature is maintained at or below 45°F (7.2°C), storage is permitted for up to 30 days, regardless of temperature. |
| Labeling Requirements | The container must be marked with the word "BIOHAZARD" or "SHARPS" if applicable. It must also display the International Biohazard Symbol. |
| Container Standards | Containers must be leak proof, puncture-resistant, moisture-resistant, and rigid. |
| Who Can Haul Waste | Transporters must obtain a PIMW Hauling Permit from the Illinois EPA. |
