Max Holding TimeUnless specific conditions are met, PIMW must not be stored for more than 72 hours. If the waste's surface temperature is maintained at or below 45°F (7.2°C), storage is permitted for up to 30 days, regardless of temperature.
Labeling RequirementsThe container must be marked with the word "BIOHAZARD" or "SHARPS" if applicable. It must also display the International Biohazard Symbol.
Container StandardsContainers must be leak proof, puncture-resistant, moisture-resistant, and rigid.
Who Can Haul WasteTransporters must obtain a PIMW Hauling Permit from the Illinois EPA.
