Max Holding TimeUnder LDEQ regulations, the maximum on-site accumulation time for hazardous waste depends on the generator's classification. Small quantity generators may store hazardous waste on-site for up to 180 days. For large quantity generators, typically allowed a 90-day accumulation period.
Labeling RequirementsLabels must be clearly visible, legible, and water-resistant. Containers should be labeled with terms such as “Potentially Infectious Biomedical Waste,” “Medical Waste,” or “Infectious Waste.”
Container StandardsContainers used for medical waste must be durable and impervious to moisture. Sharps must be placed in closed, rigid, break-resistant, and puncture-resistant containers.
Who Can Haul WasteOnly transporters with appropriate permits are authorized to haul medical waste. Transporters must comply with both LDEQ and Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) regulations.
