Max Holding TimeThe MPCA does not specify a strict maximum holding time for infectious waste. However, facilities must store waste to prevent nuisances such as odors, vermin, or leakage.
Labeling RequirementsAll bags, boxes, and containers used to collect, transport, or store infectious waste must be clearly labeled with the biohazard symbol and the words “Infectious Waste” in letters at least 1 inch high.
Container StandardsUse leak-resistant, moisture-resistant, and tear-resistant containers (e.g., red biohazard bags) for soft waste.
Who Can Haul WasteInfectious waste may be transported by the generator and a licensed medical waste transporter.
