Max Holding Time | There is no specific maximum time limit for storing RMW. However, waste must be maintained in a nonputrescent state, using refrigeration when necessary. Storage areas should be ventilated, secured, and accessible only to authorized personnel. |

Container Standards | Non-sharps waste must be placed in red, moisture-resistant bags that are strong enough to resist tearing or bursting. |
Who Can Haul Waste | Only transporters permitted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) can transport RMW. Vehicles transporting more than 50 pounds of RMW must display the transporter’s name and the words “infectious” or “regulated medical waste” on each side and the back. |
