Max Holding TimeMedical waste can be stored onsite for no more than 30 days from the date the container is full, or stored at or below 45°F (7.2°C) for an extended period (up to 90 days) if properly refrigerated.
Labeling RequirementsMedical waste containers must be clearly labeled with the words “Medical Waste,” “Infectious Waste,” or “Biohazard”, generator’s name and address, and the date waste was placed in the container.
Container StandardsSharps must be placed in puncture-resistant, leak-proof, and tightly sealed containers labeled appropriately.
Who Can Haul WasteOnly transporters registered with the TCEQ or authorized by local jurisdiction may haul untreated medical waste.
